Why should I always replace Xenon (HID) bulbs in pairs?
Why should I always replace Xenon (HID) bulbs in pairs?
Over their lifespan, Xenon bulbs naturally degrade, gradually losing brightness and shifting in colour temperature (a phenomenon known as “colour shift”). If you only replace one bulb, your headlights will look mismatched—one side bright and crisp, the other dim or pinkish. Replacing them in pairs ensures optimal, balanced visibility and a consistent beam pattern across the road.
Why does my new Xenon bulb look slightly yellower than my old one?
Why does my new Xenon bulb look slightly yellower than my old one?
Brand new Xenon bulbs require a “break‑in” period. The complex metallic salts inside the bulb’s capsule take time to fully settle and vaporize efficiently. It can take between 50 to 100 hours of operating time for a new HID bulb to reach its true, final colour temperature (such as the OE 4200K). Until it fully burns in, it is completely normal for the bulb to appear slightly warmer in tone.
Are there any special safety precautions when installing Xenon bulbs?
Are there any special safety precautions when installing Xenon bulbs?
Firstly, Xenon HID systems operate at dangerously high voltages (up to 25,000 volts during ignition), so you must ensure the vehicle is turned off, the keys are removed, and ideally, the battery is disconnected before installation. Secondly, you must never touch the glass part of the bulb with your bare fingers. The oils from your skin will create a concentrated hot spot, causing the UV‑quartz glass to shatter or fail prematurely.
Can I install these Xenon bulbs in a car with standard halogen headlights?
Can I install these Xenon bulbs in a car with standard halogen headlights?
No. These are direct replacement D‑series bulbs (such as D1S, D2S, D3S) designed exclusively for vehicles that came equipped with factory‑fitted Xenon HID systems. Standard halogen headlights operate on a simple 12V system and have completely different base fittings, reflectors, and wiring. You cannot plug a Xenon bulb directly into a halogen headlamp housing.
